Professor Wass is a Professor of Endocrinology at Oxford University and was the Head of the Department of Endocrinology at the Oxford Centre for Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism, Churchill Hospital Oxford, UK until 2011. John Wass is currently the Clinical Reference Group Chair for Endocrinology in the UK. He won the Jubilee Prize of the Society for Endocrinology in 2009. And he was awarded the Distinguished Physician of the Year Award by the American Endocrine Society in 2015 (the first non-American to ever receive this award). He also received the Lifetime Achievement Award from Pituitary Society (America) in 2017. Prof. Wass presented the BBC documentary ‘The Fantastical World of Hormones’, which was aired in March 2014. His research interests include pituitary tumours, acromegaly, growth hormone deficiency, angiogenesis in endocrinology, and the genetics of osteoporosis and thyroid disease. Since 1975, Prof. Wass has published over 400 articles in scientific journals as well as written many reviews and chapters in textbooks including the Oxford Textbook of Medicine and DeGroot’s Textbook of Endocrinology, Clinical Endocrine Oncology and the Oxford Handbook of Endocrinology (3 editions).
